  • Discover some of Iceland’s best known historical sites and natural phenomena on this popular excursion to see Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and the incredible Geysir.
  • The day starts by visiting Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was founded in the year 930 AD. The area is geologically remarkable and the tectonic plate boundaries form a breathtaking scenery.
  • We continue to the beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, where we can walk so close to the edge that we might feel the fresh mist of the glacial water on our faces. Our lunchbreak is usually at the Gullfoss Café, but sometimes we also stop for lunch at the Information Centre located at the geothermal area around Geysir.
  • We journey towards the geothermal area around the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur before returning to Reykjavik.

  • No visit to Iceland would be complete with visiting the country´s southern coast. Appreciate some of the most awe-inspiring destinations.
  • Travel across the lush farmlands that cut between the coast and the mountain ranges and glaciers of the interior highlands and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views, visit some of the area´s main natural attractions and get to know the fascinating history of the region.
  • Included in your tour is a visit to the unforgettable Skógafoss Waterfall. With a staggering 200ft drop, this waterfall is beautiful no-matter which time of the year you visit. Another iconic waterfall you will see is the spectacular Seljalandsfoss, which will make you feel like you have walked into a fairytale especially as you take the path behind the falls and gaze through the dramatic curtain of water.
  • Take a walk on the other-worldly black sands at Reynisfjara Beach, which aside from its unique sands you will be able to gaze the Reynisdrangar sea stacks poking out of the sea, be in awe at giant basalt columns, incredible lava formations, towering cliffs, and even caves!

Itinerary 

  • Discover the beauty of volcanic landscapes in the Geldingadalur Valley on this day trip from Reykjavík. Travel by bus to Meradalir Volcano and go for a guided hike to see the new lava fields. Capture photos at locations like Lake Kleifarvatn, Valhnúkamöl Boulder Ridge, and the Gunnuhver Hot Springs.
  • Start with a pickup in Reykjavík before heading on a scenic drive surrounded by breathtaking views. Stop by Lake Kleifarvatn to take in the black sand beach and surrounding mountains.
  • Put on your high-quality hiking gear and set off towards Geldingadalur Valley to see the steaming, cooling lava fields formed by the recent eruption at Merdalir. The volcano erupted for much of August 2022, but has stopped for now. Please note that the hike is of moderate difficulty and takes 1.5-2 hours each way.
  • Sit down to a delectable packed lunch on the hike where you can eat while gazing out over the immense lava fields surrounding the new crater.
  • Drive by the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the volcanos have shaped the area which is covered by soft green lava moss. Continue to the Gunnuhver Hot Springs to breath in steam from the boiling waters.
  • Make your way to the the oldest lighthouse in Iceland at Reykjanes Lighthouse. Admire the cliffs and sea stacks formed by the Atlantic Ocean at the Valhnúkamöl Boulder Ridge.
  • Finally, see the Bridge Between Continents which crosses a rift between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. Get a picture of you walking across the bridge before returning to Reykjavík.
