End point : Samer Start Point

Itinerary

  1. Stirling Castle
  2. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park
  3. Aberfoyle

  • A day spent in the land of Scots heroes Rob Roy, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.
  • You travel to Stirling Castle where you can visit the imposing stronghold, favourite residence of the Stuart Kings and where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned. You then continue into the beautiful forested hills of the Trossachs National Park and stop for lunch in Aberfoyle. After lunch you take the high road to Loch Lomond and you travel through the protected lands of Scotland’s first National Park. The route you take is along the eastern shores, a beautiful sheltered stretch of the loch and the perfect place to enjoy a walk along the bonny banks. You can enjoy the view of Loch Lomond and walk in the footsteps of Scotland’s famous highland folk hero, Rob Roy MacGregor. From here you return to Edinburgh in the late afternoon.
  • Experience the Highlands’ natural forests, lochs and mountains and feel Scotland’s past in the heartland of its greatest heroes.
  • Stirling Castle is one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland. The castle sits on top of Castle Hill surrounded on three sides by steep cliffs that provide a strong defence. This strategic location made it an important fortress from the very beginning. Many Kings and Queens from Scotland have been crowned at Stirling. The castle withstood at least eight sieges during its history.

  • From Edinburgh we head to South Queensferry and the Forth Bridges, giving us the chance to take a photo of three of the most remarkable bridges in the world. Crossing the River Forth, our first stop is magnificent Dunfermline Abbey, burial place of King Robert the Bruce. There will be a chance to photograph his ornate golden tomb. You will also have the opportunity to wander around the Abbey, its grounds and see the results of the “reformation”, a time when churches were destroyed and desecrated, supposedly in the name of God.
  • Passing the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie, the world famous philanthropist, we travel along the Fife coast and the charming little fishing villages of the “East Neuk”, stopping in Anstruther, an old Herring stronghold where you may take the opportunity to try “the best fish and chips in Scotland” or have a snack at the Fisheries Museum. Afterwards, we will continue on to St. Andrews, home of golf, religion and of course St. Andrews University. Spend up to 2.5 hours in this historic and beautiful setting. In good weather, the beach featured in the movie “Chariots of Fire”, is a particularly popular sight. You’ll also enjoy the intriguing 16th Century tunnels beneath the Castle.
  •
  • Golfers may want to visit the grave of Young Tom Morris, the Golf Museum, the Links Course putting green, or simply walk along Grannie Clark’s Wynd, a public right-of-way, over the 1st and the 18th fairways of the old course.
  • Our final stop of the day is to stretch your legs and take some photos of the beautiful village of Falkland, nestled between the two Lomond Hills in the Howe of Fife.
  • Fans of “Outlander” will recognise Falkland as the stand-in for Inverness, where Claire and Frank honeymoon. Includes several shops and locations from the programme including the fountain Jamie stands at and stares in Claire’s window
