Itinerary

  • A day spent in the land of Scots heroes Rob Roy, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.
  • You travel to Stirling Castle where you can visit the imposing stronghold, favourite residence of the Stuart Kings and where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned. You then continue into the beautiful forested hills of the Trossachs National Park and stop for lunch in Aberfoyle. After lunch you take the high road to Loch Lomond and you travel through the protected lands of Scotland’s first National Park. The route you take is along the eastern shores, a beautiful sheltered stretch of the loch and the perfect place to enjoy a walk along the bonny banks. You can enjoy the view of Loch Lomond and walk in the footsteps of Scotland’s famous highland folk hero, Rob Roy MacGregor. From here you return to Edinburgh in the late afternoon.
  • Experience the Highlands’ natural forests, lochs and mountains and feel Scotland’s past in the heartland of its greatest heroes.
  • Stirling Castle is one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland. The castle sits on top of Castle Hill surrounded on three sides by steep cliffs that provide a strong defence. This strategic location made it an important fortress from the very beginning. Many Kings and Queens from Scotland have been crowned at Stirling. The castle withstood at least eight sieges during its history.

About this tour

  • Journey deep into the Highlands of Scotland on our monster-sized day tour. On this one-day tour from Edinburgh, you hear the legendary stories of the Jacobites, gaze into gorgeous Glencoe, and get a chance to spot the mythical Loch Ness Monster.
  • After departing Edinburgh, you will soon notice how the scenery changes dramatically as you venture further into the Highlands. The flat plains of the Lowlands transform into shimmering lochs, rugged mountains and forest-filled glens. The alluring beauty makes it easy to forget this was once a battleground of the fiercely territorial Highland clans.
  • Pass through Scotland’s most famous valley, the magnificent Glencoe, and be mesmerized by the beautiful cliff faces and steep slopes. Next, enter a deep glacial valley, known as the Great Glen, which spans Scotland for 62 miles (100 km) from Fort William all the way to Inverness. Pass through the picturesque town of Fort William as you travel in the shadow of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, before arriving at Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness.
  • At 23 miles long and over 700ft deep, Loch Ness is the largest loch by volume in Scotland. The loch is best known for the legendary Loch Ness Monster (Nessie) and you can take the opportunity to go in search of the monster on a optional boat cruise. Or you can simply enjoy the beautiful scenery on the banks. Fort Augustus boasts the Caledonian Canal, which is a great spot to relax and watch the boats sail by. Enjoy 1.5 hours of free time for lunch and to take in the breathtaking scenery around Scotland’s most famous loch.
  • Afterwards, move south through the mountains of the Cairngorms National Park. Your route travels alongside Loch Laggan (the setting for the BBC series ‘Monarch of the Glen’), over the Drumochter Pass and past 13th century Blair Castle before continuing through the forests of Perthshire before heading back to Edinburgh..

St. Andrews and the Fishing Villages of Fife || Car Rental

  • Enjoy breakfast and savour the local delicacies. Check out from London Hotel.

Itinerary

  1. South Queensferry
  2. Anstruther
  3. Falkland

Small group

  • This tour takes you to South Queensferry to view the 8th Wonder of the World. Then travel into the medieval Kingdom of Fife, following the coastal route through the pretty fishing villages in the East Neuk of Fife (including stopping in Anstruther). This gives you approx three hours to enjoy the historic city of St. Andrews. You can visit its cathedral, castle, and University, shop at leisure, and take a walk along its beautiful white sandy beach next to the Old Course, the home of golf. You then travel westwards through the heart of Fife, stopping in the historic village of Falkland, home to the historic Renaissance Palace of James V. From here you return home to Edinburgh.
  • St Andrews takes its name from the Apostle. This former royal burgh is home to the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland: the University of St Andrews. Its students count for approximately one-third of the population of the city. The first church was built on the site of the cathedral in the 8th century, and it became the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland at least until the Scottish Reformation. Its cathedral, the largest and most famous in Scotland, currently lies in ruins. The martyrs of the Reformation epoch like Patrick Hamilton, George Wishart, and others are remembered by the Martyrs Memorial which towers on a cliff over the sea.
