  • Leave bustling Amsterdam behind in this half day excursion and discover the picture postcard Dutch countryside – think vast fields of colourful flowers, windmills, polders and canals.
  • Leave the bustling city of Amsterdam behind as you escape to the country where you will visit quaint fishing villages and witness traditional craftsmen at work. and enjoy the tranquillity of the area and immerse yourself in the old way of life as you admire the colourful Dutch windmills.
  • The first stop is Zaanse Schans, a traditional village renowned for its many windmills dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. With over ten windmills lining the banks of the Zaan River, explore this incredible open-air museum or with your free time, why not stop to visit some of the windmills. Zaanse Schans is truly one of the best places to see windmills in Holland!
  • The next stop is the picturesque fishing village of Volendam. Visit the Cheese Factory to learn more about how the Dutch make cheese as well as delight your taste buds as you try their incredible cheese. What’s more, step back in time to the 19th century with a visit to Woltjes Backerij, an authentic stroopwafel bakery. See how people lived as well as find out how these Dutch delicacies are made!
  • Afterwards, enjoy some free time to discover Volendam at your own leisure. Continue as you head towards the ancient town of Edam, that dates back to the 12th century. World-famous for its iconic red cheese balls, this picturesque village has been exporting its cheese to every corner of the world for centuries. Take a stroll along the cobbled streets and be captivated by its beautiful buildings, picturesque squares and peaceful canals.
  • Only if you have selected the option “All-in Tour”, enjoy a 30-minute scenic boat tour across the Ijsselmeer to Marken. Upon arrival, take a stroll amongst the beautiful wooden-clad houses. Complete the tour with a visit to a traditional Marker house and watch how traditional clogs are made; according to a 100-year-old tradition with steam-powered tools. Whilst here, why not try on a pair and see how surprisingly comfortable they are!

  • Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rhine Valley, with its vineyards and picturesque towns and villages. See the mighty medieval castles – the area has the highest density of such buildings in the world.
  • Marvel at the stunningly beautiful “Lorelei-Felsen,” or Siren’s Rocks, and enjoy fantastic views over the valley from the Niederwald monument.
  • In the summer you can ride on the Assmannshausen cable car down into the valley (optional), have lunch in a marvelous restaurant on the banks of the Rhine (included), and then take a wonderful Panorama boat trip to St. Goarshausen, past the famous Loreley.
  • Try fine wines on location in a small tavern and or just lose yourself in the picturesque little town of Rüdesheim. Please note that the tour will only stop at Rüdesheim if time allows. 
  • In winter time it may be possible that steamers do not operate in case of bad weather or water conditions. In this case, you will visit a castle instead.
  • Drive back to Frankfurt

Day 6 - Drive to Heidelberg and Nuremberg

  • Get to know two of the most beautiful and historic cities in Germany during a day of sightseeing filled with medieval grandeur. With a look at the imposing ruins of Heidelberg Castle and the seat of Holy Roman Emperors in Nuremberg, you will get a great overview of the region’s colorful past.
  • After you meet your guide, set out for a visit to the picturesque city of Heidelberg along the River Neckar. Tour the famous Heidelberg Castle and admire the long courtyard, the mighty terrace, and one of the largest wine barrels in the world. Then, take a walk in the city’s medieval town center to marvel at the Old Bridge, Karl’s Gate, the Church of the Holy Spirit, and the House of the Knights, as well as the oldest university in Germany.
  • In the afternoon, you cross into Bavaria for a visit to the storied city of Nuremberg. Look up at the mighty Imperial Castle, or Kaiserburg, which is one of the grandest medieval fortifications in Europe. Later, you can check out the Old City Hall, and the site of the famous Christkindl’s market. Start your return journey after a look at the towering Gothic facades of the St. Lorenz Church and the Frauenkirche.
